Music Magazine Advertisement

Initial Thoughts

Initially we spoke about NME(New Musical Express) which is a music magazine that has been round since 1952 and is still available today. We also looked at WHSmith and all of the different music magazines that are available to either buy in store or online. The contrast between 1952 and now can be seen in the image below.

Here is a timeline that we looked at that had different stages along the way between 1952 and 2012. 

We then talked about 4 different covers of 4 different music magazines. There are different magazines for different types of music. As you can see below with the mixmag which is based on a dance type of 

We then chose NME as the magazine that we are going to put our advertisement into this magazine this is because it is for upcoming artist. This is why Frank Hamilton would be good to go into this magazine.

 

Research - Existing Music Magazine Adverts

We looked at a lot of differennt music magazine adverts from a lot of different types of music magazines and we then found out that they all have some particular things such as they all have the artists name and they all have the album name that it is presenting. Another thing that will always be on there is an image of some sort that is relaying the album to the people that are looking at the advert.  We also found that if the genre of music was country then they would b wearing a shirt and will some of the time be animated in some way. Surrounding the adverts you will also see things like copyright information and you will most likely see a release date and social media information as well. 

 

Above you can see a music magazine ad  by the artist called Kyle Park. I found this on the internet and annotated it using powerpoint. I put the notes on it with all of the different conventions in what a music mag ad should have and what this has to make it easier for us when we got to creating our own. Completing this task made me understand what needs to be within the music magazine advert.

Evidence of Music Magazine Advert production: Frank Hamilton - "Summer"

Firstly i imported a plain picture of the field in which most of the music video was filmed. This was just a single image which was imported at this point. Below you can see the original image of the field. 

Below you can now see the image after i have added the filters onto the picture and i also added a lens flair into the top left hand corner of the picture to add the effect of the sun being there. I then added 2 filters on the picture to re create a sunny day even though as you can see in the original image it wasn't.  

The next thing that I did on the music magazine add was that i added the text of the artists name and the name of the album. This is the text 

 

 Below you can now see what i did next. This is when i added the pictures of the 2 people into the advert. The first person that was added was the younger version. He was added and then i changed the opacity of that particular layer so that i was able to make it look lik it was the past. The second person that wasthe present day version of the person that was within the music video. 

The next thing which i did was to add the album release date which was originally white text. To give it this effect i added another layer which had just what i wanted the text to be and the same colour. After this was done i then made sure that the layer for this was above the text in the layers. I then right clicked on the image and clicked create clipping mask which allowed me to create this effect. 

The last thing i did to create the magazine advert was to add the different  platforms the music would be on so i added logos such as facebook and soundcloud as you would be able to find the videos on these platforms if the artist decided to release a new music video.
